Last week we talked about style and safety when you are thinking of buying childrens jewellery. As a recap, we said that you should choose a certain style of jewellery, don’t just go for the most popular choices. It is also a question of safety when children wear jewellery. Earrings, pendants and rings are all very small items that can be swallowed. So, keep an eye on their jewellery and make sure they understand that it is not for eating!

Here are a few more tips to think about: – Occasion - Is this gift to celebrate a particular occasion in the child’s life? If so, then it is always nice to buy something that is relevant in some way. Many people will give a bracelet or bangle (complete with the child’s name engraved) as a gift for a Christening or Holy Communion. Likewise, if it is a birthday present, then having the relevant year engraved is a fitting idea.

– Gender - When you think about childrens jewellery, it is normally little girls who come to mind. However, quite a lot of people buy jewellery as a gift for boys as well. If you are buying an item for a boy then the golden rule to bear in mind is ‘keep it masculine’. Look for a piece (such as a necklace) in darker colours. As long as you remember this then you should not have any problems.
